ESPN and the destruction of all things "Western"

by csd - Sun, 28 Aug 2011 20:29:49 PST

For a network that prides itself on being the "go to" source for all sports, ESPN is the most biased and irritating network on television/cable (not counting all news networks). Why would a network knowingly hire announcers and broadcasters that hate a specific team no matter who that team plays against? Of course I am referring to the "mothership's"* treatment of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Dan Shulman, Karl Ravech, John Kruk, Buster Onley, and whoever else they exhume from some East Coast graveyard of Satanic whoreship have no intention of fairly reporting the Angels to the rest of the nation. Some say it is East Coast bias but I don't buy that explanation because these "journalists" wet their pants over the Giants, Dodgers, and Lakers. Other's say its because of money; the Red Sox and Yankees just have more fans but Los Angeles is the second largest city in the United States (not even counting Orange County, the central coast, and south San Jouquin Valley). So what is it Oh, Powerful network suits? Answer me or I will continue to believe that A-Rod and Pedroia have docked with you at a rest stop somewhere in Delaware.

*as Dan Patrick refers to the network

cola buddy

by csd - Tue, 23 Aug 2011 00:08:46 PST

Just fixed a whole bunch of minor little quibbles with the scripts. I have to start thinking more cyclically and pay attention. Should I make individual xml rss feeds for individual comics? I don't know.

Bakersfield Internets

by csd - Mon, 22 Aug 2011 23:47:59 PST

I am going on a Bakersfield fact finding and scavenging mission. I hope to get some work done soon. Anyway, I hope to get a neat little writing group bulletin-board thing written while I am there. I also have to edit and rewrite the current super-special secret project.

Opera 11.50 is really nice also. I was surprised how much easier my old tank staggers along compared to browsing with Firefox.

If you are in Colorado and like movies:

by csd - Fri, 19 Aug 2011 16:54:09 PST

Fabian Euresti's short documentary film Everybody's Nuts will be screened at the DocuWest Film Fest. It is a great short film about Kern County, CA and Mr. Euresti uniquely and personally describes life in the country outside of the Bakersfield metro area*. I saw the movie at the LA Film Fest a few months ago and enjoyed the experience. Everybody's Nuts is playing September 7th , 9th, and 11th (2011 of course) in Golden, Colorado; tickets/further information available here: http://docuwestfest.com/2011films.html

* It feels odd describing my hometown that way.

I dunno...

by csd - Wed, 17 August 2011 05:14:00 PST

I still have lots to do and I don't really feel like finishing it all right now. I think the major functionality of the site is complete but there are a few final things that I would like to add like gallery, comment, and article creation.

tags and elves

by csd - Wed, 17 August 2011 02:33:00 PST

You can now browse the site using tags. I think of them like keywords instead of SEO advertising opportunities; tags on this site work more like a loose gathering of similar topics across different sections. I would have called them something else, but I couldn't think of a better name.

Digital Art Programs

by csd - Tue, 16 August 2011 22:07:00 PST

There are a lot of digital art programs available, but I prefer open source programs. I currently use GIMP and Inkscape though I do keep an old copy of Adobe Photoshop 5 installed on this old tank of a computer. Scribus is a great program that I use to create the layouts and pdf files for the Brooding Hipthrust site. Another program I am getting used to is Synfig Studio which is a vector animation program.

-GIMP - GNU Image Manipulation Program.
-Inkscape - Vector art drawing.
-Scribus - Desktop publishing
-Synfig Studio - 2D vector animation and tweening program

However, I still prefer my Series 7 brush, bristol board, nib collection, and India ink to any digital art.

I also have a redbubble account. If you were really nice, you could take a look at the t-shirts and prints I offer at that site. It is a print-on-demand site but it looks a bit more professional than cafe press.

The First Post.

by csd - Tue, 16 August 2011 14:39:00 PST

This is the first post made by my new and improved posting set of scripts. PHP is fairly easy, but I feel like perl is more efficient. I think it is all organized well enough but I doubt anyone else would enjoy using this setup. Comments, galleries, and other minor pages will be added next. Brooding Hipthrust is still up and running though JJE and I are thinking about adding a frequently updated comic section or something. If you haven't taken a look at BH3, you should here.
